FAQ

What is Simple Steps® packaging?
Simple Steps® technology is an exciting, new innovation in food packaging. It enables food processors to offer fresh (not frozen), high-quality meats or vegetables that can be reheated or steamed in minutes in the microwave. It offers all the comfort and taste of a home-cooked, quality meal without the hassle and time of meal preparation. Look for the Simple Steps® logo on the package.

How does it work?
Just remove the Simple Steps® tray from its outer packaging, microwave for the designated time (usually under five minutes for entrées and four minutes or less for vegetables), allow it to cool, and then remove the easy-to-open film and serve. You can serve or eat directly from the tray.

How is it different from regular microwave meals?
It’s the three simple steps to prepare a meal. Just remove the Simple Steps® package from its outer sleeve and place in the microwave. There is no need to puncture ventilation holes with a knife or fork because the Simple Steps® package has a self-venting feature. When ready, remove the package from the microwave and peel off the easy open film and serve.

Where do I buy it?
Available in major markets in the US and Canada. Check your local supermarkets for availability.

Who makes it?
The Simple Steps® package is a Cryovac® brand product from Sealed Air. Sealed Air is known for its long-standing focus on innovation and value-added products that enable people to live better all around the world.

What about the fact that you are microwaving plastic? I’ve heard that’s dangerous/unhealthy.
Simple Steps® packaging is intended for microwave applications and is made with materials approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for this purpose. See this link to an FDA site that includes information about cooking and heating food safely in the microwave: FDA site "Plastics and the Microwave".

I’ve heard stories recently about bisphenol A (BPA), a controversial chemical found in hard plastics. Do your products contain BPA?
The products we produce are not formulated with raw materials known or expected to contain BPA. BPA is mainly used in polycarbonates and epoxy based formulations. Polycarbonates can be found in a wide variety of common products including digital media (e.g., CDs, DVDs), electrical and electronic equipment, automobiles, sports safety equipment, and many other products. There have been reports that rigid plastic materials using an identification code of "7" (other) contain BPA. The "7" suggests that the product is a mix of resins or a resin that is not currently identified by a code. It does not mean that the product is made of polycarbonate or contains BPA. For additional information concerning FDA's assessment of BPA, please review the following: http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/bpa.html.
